The story
We set out to create something better.
After decades of creating software solutions for residential and commercial properties, we recognized fundamental limitations in existing smart home and building technologies.
Proprietary hardware—expensive, eventually obsolete, and locked into narrow ecosystems—consistently frustrated our ability to deliver the right solution. We created GEM around supported open protocols, standard hardware, and the flexibility to complement or replace other systems as a property’s needs change.

Quan has over 20 years of software engineering experience in the control and integration industry, where he designed control systems for families and Fortune 500 businesses. He is passionate about building relationships and helping clients see what GEM can make possible.
Nathan Freeze
Managing Partner · Director of Product Development
Nathan spent two decades designing and building software solutions in the integration, control, finance, I.T., and hospitality industries. His interest in solving complex problems and improving energy efficiency helped inspire the creation of Harness Automation.
